Dan R. Nelson recognized for excellence in bankruptcy law

PP_2024 Roser AwardDan R. Nelson will receive this year’s Michael R. Roser Excellence in Bankruptcy Award from The Missouri Bar Financial Services & Insolvency Law Committee.

Named after prominent Kansas City bankruptcy lawyer Michael R. Roser, the award was created in 1994 and is given each year to a lawyer who manifests the highest standard of excellence in bankruptcy practice, who contributes distinctively to the development and appreciation of bankruptcy law, and who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of bankruptcy practice or administration.

“Mr. Roser set a high bar for all bankruptcy practitioners and was a shining example of the best of us in this area of practice,” Nelson said. “To be recognized in the same company as past recipients of this award is a truly humbling experience indeed.”

Nelson will receive the award at the Midwestern Bankruptcy Institute in Kansas City on Oct. 25.

Nelson, of Springfield, is a dean of the bankruptcy bar in the southern and southwest divisions and has served as a chapter 7 and chapter 12 trustee. A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law, Nelson was also a moderator at the Kroger Symposium for the judges’ panel.

“Dan is always a well-prepared and tough advocate who is not afraid to try a case, but he is also respectful and practical and tries to resolve issues when he can,” one of his nominators wrote to the committee. “[W]hen Dan enters an appearance in a case, he will raise interesting issues and … if not settled, the matter will be well tried.”
