M. Courtney Koger receives Dorothy Kaiser Award

Award recognizes her compassionate service in aid of impaired female lawyers

The Missouri Lawyers’ Assistance Program presents one lawyer each year with the Dorothy Kaiser Award in recognition of the pioneering contributions over the years in the field of chemical dependency, recovery and continuing, compassionate care for impaired female lawyers in Missouri. This year’s honoree is M. Courtney Koger, a partner with Kutak Rock LLP in Kansas City.

Koger is an active role model and monitor for new lawyers and works hard to raise awareness about substance and mental health recovery resources. In addition, she has personally offered peer support to lawyers in crisis.

Since 2018, Koger has served on the Supreme Court of Missouri Intervention Committee.

I am very honored to receive the Dorothy Kaiser Award with its focus on recovery and care for female lawyers,” expressed Koger. “It can be extremely difficult for any lawyer suffering from an addiction or chemical dependency to reach out for help.

Koger added, “Addiction does not discriminate based on gender, and neither should recovery.

Koger, along with others being recognized for their service in the area of lawyer wellness, will be noted at the 2020 Missouri Lawyers’ Assistance Conference held virtually Nov. 6. The conference is presented by the Missouri Lawyers’ Assistance Program in cooperation with the Lawyers’ Assistance Committee of The Missouri Bar. The event is sponsored by The Missouri Bar, The Bar Plan and The Missouri Bar Foundation.
