The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section Council recently elected Travis West to represent District 10 (Barry, Barton, Bates, Cedar, Dade, Henry, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, St. Clair, and Vernon counties).

YLS works to facilitate the professional growth and public service of new and recently admitted Missouri lawyers. The YLS Council is comprised of approximately 35 lawyers from districts across the state who are elected by their peers to serve two-year terms.

West graduated from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law in 2024. He is an associate at Dreyer & Tinney Law Firm in Joplin.

West answered the following questions to help his constituents get to know him.

What are you most looking forward to in your role as a YLS Council member?

“I am most looking forward to meeting and building relationships with other attorneys throughout the state. I think that learning from other people’s experiences and knowledge is invaluable, and this is a great opportunity to meet attorneys from all over the state and learn from them. I am also looking forward to getting involved in helping to plan and implement the great CLE’s and events that YLS puts on throughout the year.”

Who is your personal hero?

“My personal heroes are my mom and dad. They have always set such a good example for me. Growing up, I saw how hard they worked to make ends meet, but they were always there at every school or sporting event that I had cheering me on. I also saw how much honesty and integrity they had with everything they did and everyone they interacted with.”

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?

“Health and fitness are really important to me; I love to do CrossFit and other types of fitness activities where I can really challenge myself. So, one of my favorite ways to spend the day off is getting in a good workout or competing in a triathlon race or a Tough Mudder-style race.”
