What Senior Counselors need to know about MCLE requirements, discounted CLEs
If you’ve reached Senior Counselor status, congratulations! The Missouri Bar is here to help you meet your minimum continuing legal education requirements with discounted programs.
The Senior Counselor recognition includes Missouri Bar members who currently hold an active license in good standing who have been admitted to The Missouri Bar for 50 years or will reach the age of 75 during the current bar enrollment year of Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2026.
MCLE requirements
While Senior Counselors are exempt from enrollment fees, your obligation to take and report continuing legal education credits is determined solely by licensure status and is unrelated to the title of Senior Counselor.
If you maintain an active license to practice in Missouri, you are obligated to file an MCLE Annual Report. If you did not practice law in Missouri during the applicable reporting period, you may claim an exemption from obtaining the required 15 hours of MCLE credit.
Remember, indicating that you are retired on your annual enrollment fee form to the Supreme Court of Missouri does not result in a change of licensure status such that it affects your obligation to file an MCLE Annual Report. Unless you have affirmatively contacted the Supreme Court of Missouri’s Attorney Enrollment Office and requested a change in licensure status, your active license means that you must file an MCLE report claiming attendance hours or a nonpracticing exemption.
If your license is inactive prior to the conclusion of the MCLE compliance year (July 1, 2026-June 30, 2027), then you do not have an obligation to complete continuing legal education hours or to file an MCLE Annual Report.
