Apply for vacancies on Judicial Performance Committee, Press-Bar Commission, Fee Dispute Resolution Committee

The Missouri Bar Board of Governors is seeking applications from Missouri lawyers to serve on the Missouri Judicial Performance Review Committee, the Missouri Press-Bar Commission, and the Fee Dispute Resolution Committee.

These positions are great opportunities to get more involved in The Missouri Bar and serve the public.

Judicial Performance Review Committee

The Board of Governors is seeking applicants from Missouri lawyers from the 16th Judicial Circuit (Jackson County) and 21st Judicial Circuit (St. Louis County). Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The board is also seeking applicants from the general public residing in the eastern district.

The terms of service for these positions will begin May 31, 2026, and end May 31, 2032.

The Judicial Performance Review Committee is charged with:

— Collecting information on judicial performance, including survey responses from lawyers and jurors; written opinions; and other reliable sources;

Reviewing judicial performance based on performance review standards adopted by the committee, to include whether the judge is:

  • Deciding cases based on established facts and applicable law;
  • Explaining decisions clearly; and
  • Exhibiting proper courtroom demeanor;

Recommending by a majority vote of the committee members whether a judge should be retained;

Communicating the vote on the proposition to the judge and provide a process by which the judge may communicate additional information to the committee and request a reconsideration of the vote before the vote is made public;

Assembling biographical information and provide a process for the judge to review and submit corrections before publication; and

— Releasing information to the public about the judicial performance review process; the judge’s biographical information; and the final vote of the committee on or before Oct. 1 of an election year by The Missouri Bar and its affiliates in a manner designed to maximize the use of the information by the public.

Missouri Press-Bar Commission – St. Louis

The Missouri Bar Board of Governors is seeking applications from Missouri lawyers from the St. Louis region. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The term of service will begin June 1, 2026, and end May 31, 2030.

The Missouri Press-Bar Commission is composed of media professionals, lawyers, and judges who work together to foster better communications among the media, the bench, and the bar.

The commission traditionally meets twice a year to develop projects and programs in furtherance of its mission.

Fee Dispute Resolution Committee

The Missouri Bar Board of Governors is seeking applications from Missouri lawyers to serve on the Fee Dispute Resolution Committee for a term of four years.

The term of service will begin June 1, 2026, and end May 31, 2030.

The Fee Dispute Resolution Program provides a procedure for resolving fee disputes between clients and lawyers through facilitation, mediation, or arbitration. Participation by the parties in the program is voluntary, and it provides services at no cost to the parties.
