Assistant director of membership services helps connect sponsors, members

Trevor Mulholland

Every day is a new adventure for Trevor Mulholland as he works with The Missouri Bar’s member benefit providers to raise awareness of various resources that help Missouri lawyers even better serve their clients and manage their practices.

Mulholland, now the assistant director of membership services, joined the bar’s staff as member benefits coordinator in December 2018, when the position was created. He routinely works with the bar’s partners -- advertisers, sponsors, exhibitors, and member benefit providers -- to help them reach Missouri lawyers, whether that be through event exhibits, the Journal or web advertising, blog content, or other outlets.

“We’re really putting ourselves everywhere where Missouri lawyers go for resources to make sure when they’re ready, those resources are readily available in whatever format they prefer,” he said.

The Missouri Bar offers more than 60 benefits from more than 50 providers, including insurance products through The Missouri Bar Private Insurance Exchange, free legal research through Fastcase, and more. This means members could save hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars annually by utilizing the bar’s member benefits, Mulholland said.

“With so many lawyers also being small business owners, we recognize the importance for lawyers to save money and be more efficient,” he said. “That’s why we partner with member benefit providers. For instance, lawyers save up to 70% on office supplies from Office Depot or can utilize a payment processor specifically designed for lawyers, LawPay, that integrates with their preferred practice management software, timekeeping, and invoice programs, just to name a few.”

Along with promoting member benefits, Mulholland is also the team leader behind The Missouri Bar’s recently launched Practice Management Resource Center. With most Missouri lawyers working as solo practitioners or at small firms, the state bar partnered with Affinity Consulting Group to provide practice management resources to help members open, build, manage, protect, and wind down their practices. Resources include white papers, checklists, product-comparison charts, and more. If members have specific questions, they can also email Affinity Consulting Group or schedule a one-on-one remote consultation, at no cost.

“Our goal is to help Missouri lawyers spend less time worrying about their practice and more time doing great work on behalf of their clients,” he said.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic forced The Missouri Bar to take its conferences and events online, Mulholland said he enjoyed having one-on-one conversations with members and fostering connections between them and partners.

Between coordinating advertisers, promoting member benefits, and helping plan events, it’s no exaggeration that every day is “a new adventure,” Mulholland said.

Before joining The Missouri Bar team, Mulholland worked with an association management company and was assigned to help associations plan events, as well as coordinate with the associations’ sponsors, exhibitors, and advertisers. He credited that position for providing the skills he needs to reach his goals as assistant director of membership services at The Missouri Bar.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Mulholland enjoyed traveling and trying new food.
