Catch up on timely well-being topics at 2025 MOLAP Conference rebroadcasts

If you missed last year’s Missouri Lawyers’ Assistance Conference, you’ll have two more chances to watch it remotely.

The conference will be rebroadcasted virtually noon-3:54 p.m. Feb. 4 and April 3.

Registration costs $50, and the program will be eligible for 4 MCLE, 4 Ethics, and 1 Elimination of Bias credits. Learn more and register at MoBarCLE.MoBar.org.

The conference will address relevant well-being topics, and attendees will learn tips that can help them even better serve their clients.

Presentations include:

— “The practicalities and ethics of balance, bias, and boundaries,” by Laurel Stevenson, director of the Mediation and Assessment Program, U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri, Kansas City

— Better late than never: Embracing late-stage mental health diagnoses as an attorney, by Karly D. Weigel, Flynn Group, Overland Park, Kansas

— The impact of secondary trauma, by Loretta Oleksy and Jill Carnell, Thought Kitchen LLC, Indiana

“Commercialized gambling: An overlooked behavioral addiction affecting lawyers and their clients,” by Michael K. Fagan, Washington University School of Law, St. Louis

MOLAP Director Stacy Parmer will moderate the rebroadcast and be available online to answer participants’ questions in the chat.

MOLAP strives to reduce the stigma surrounding substance misuse and mental health, because The Missouri Bar believes that everyone deserves easy access to the support they need. Even successful lawyers need assistance at times. Missouri lawyers should feel empowered to ask for help without the fear of judgment or repercussion.

MOLAP services include:

— Counseling. All Missouri Bar members have access to services by calling 1-800-688-7859. MOLAP also makes referrals to professional resources as indicated.

— Crisis intervention. MOLAP coordinates crisis intervention services for individuals and law firms.

— Education and prevention. MOLAP offers educational programs and articles on topics such as substance use, stress, depression, and quality of life.

— Substance misuse support. Get connected immediately to a clinically trained substance use clinician, quick access to peer volunteers recovering from substance misuse, and individualized recovery plans.
