Celebrate pro bono with The Missouri Bar: Join in the National Celebration of Pro Bono Oct. 20-26

This week, in recognition of National Celebration of Pro Bono, The Missouri Bar thank all of those who have taken time out of their busy lives to assist others and encourage lawyers to find a way to use their skills to benefit others. Each year, Missouri lawyers complete thousands of hours of pro bono work to help provide equal access to legal services for all. Every hour you help makes a difference in clients’ lives and in Missouri communities.  

How can you participate? 

Share your time with organizations: The Missouri Bar maintains a list of pro bono volunteer opportunities, including several with organizations like Mid-Missouri Legal Services Corp, The Missouri Senior Legal Helpline, Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Missouri State Public Defender System, and more. Answer questions on Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org: In partnership with the American Bar Association, The Missouri Bar’s free online legal clinic continues to be a vital resource for low-income Missourians. At Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org, Missourians with civil legal concerns can ask questions — and you can sign in and answer them at a time and place that works with your schedule. 

Assist with the Disaster Recovery Legal Assistance Hotline: When a natural disaster occurs, many victims have legal questions. In response, The Missouri Bar can activate a special toll-free number to support impacted Missourians. Callers are referred to lawyers who offer volunteer telephone consultations, providing free legal advice for disaster-related issues. In recent years, The Missouri Bar has activated the hotline in response to flooding and tornadoes. Learn how you can volunteer with the hotline here. 

Waive your enrollment fee through pro bono service: Calling all retirees! Rule 6.01 allows Missouri lawyers to seek waivers of annual enrollment fees in exchange for providing pro bono service and agreeing to not be compensated for any legal work performed during the waiver period.
