FAQs about Fall Committee Meetings
Each year, The Missouri Bar’s Fall Committee Meetings are a chance for lawyers to exchange ideas and learn ways to even better serve their clients. Registration for the 2021 virtual event, set for Nov. 15-18, is now open! Below are some frequently asked questions about the event. For even more information, and to register, go to MoBar.org/fcm2021.
What is a Missouri Bar Committee?
Committees represent the driving forces behind much of the work and activities of The Missouri Bar. Committee members are lawyers who practice in or are passionate about a particular area of law. Throughout the year, committees typically engage in activities which include, but are not limited to, drafting and/or reviewing legislative proposals; developing and presenting continuing legal education programs, print reference materials, and practice resources; increasing public understanding of the law; helping educators teach young people about the justice system; developing a variety of programs and activities to help lawyers improve the efficiency of their practices; and developing programs to maintain the highest level of professionalism among members.
Do I have to be a member of a committee to participate?
No. While The Missouri Bar encourages all lawyers to join open enrollment committees connected to their area(s) of practice or that they find interesting, lawyers don’t have to join a committee to take part in the meetings.
How can I join a committee?
Members can simply browse the list of committees, learn about their work and scope, and view the current rosters. Sign in to the Join a Committee webpage to sign up today.
How can I communicate with committee members?
connect.MOBAR makes it easy for lawyers to connect and collaborate in various committees. After joining a group, lawyers are added to that committee’s corresponding online community. The Solo & Small Firm Practice Committee is currently the largest group, with more than 2,000 members.
Who should attend Fall Committee Meetings?
All Missouri lawyers are invited to attend any of the 29 meetings, many of which will feature CLE programming at no cost to the attendee.
What happens during meetings?
While each meeting is unique, the majority include an update from committee chairs, a business meeting, and a CLE program related to the practice area.
Will there be a chance to network with others?
There is no specific networking event scheduled, but participants are welcome to continue conversations after a meeting on connect.MOBAR.
How much is registration?
There is no cost to attend committee meetings.
