Fee Dispute Resolution and Complaint Resolution programs seek volunteers

Lawyers and non-lawyers who would like to help with the administration and advancement of justice are encouraged to volunteer to serve as facilitators, mediators, or arbitrators for The Missouri Bar’s Fee Dispute Resolution and Complaint Resolution programs. 

The bar will host a new volunteer training session in Jefferson City later this year. Those interested in volunteering can complete a volunteer application to be reviewed by a committee. 

The Fee Dispute Resolution Program is available on a voluntary basis to assist clients who dispute a fee charged by their Missouri lawyer for legal services. The program offers facilitation, mediation, and binding arbitration to assist the parties in resolving the dispute. Volunteers may be lawyers and non-lawyers. 

The Complaint Resolution Program assists with the resolution of complaints against lawyers that the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel has determined may best be resolved outside the formal disciplinary system. The program assists in resolving grievances and to assure the public and the legal profession that those grievances can be resolved in a just fashion and in accordance with the participation and reasonable expectations of the parties 

Both programs rely on volunteers to provide alternative dispute resolution options to the public and the legal profession.
