Gain essential insight from two plenaries at September Annual Meeting

Several prominent legal figures are scheduled to take the stage and present timely plenaries during  The Missouri Bar Annual Meeting and Judicial Conference,  Sept. 17-19 in Branson. Registration for in-person or virtual attendance is now open at MoBar.org/AM25.

The Darryl Burton story: lessons for lawyers & judges

Explore the intricacies, strengths, and weaknesses of the legal system through the story of Darryl Burton, an innocent man who was wrongfully convicted of a murder and spent 24 years in a Missouri prison before being exonerated. Hon. Richard Callahan, who oversaw Burton’s exoneration case, will also provide insights, and lawyer Liz Ramsey McIntosh will moderate the panel. After the plenary, lawyers will have a chance to speak with Burton.

Law in flux: navigating 2025’s legal and judicial crosswinds

Panelists Hon. David Dolan, 2024-2025 American Bar Association President Bill Bay, Professor Steve Leben, and lawyer Jenifer Placzek will address the impact on Missouri lawyers’ practices following 2025’s expansive, rapid changes to federal and state laws and agencies, as well as challenges to the independent judiciary and the ability to represent clients without repercussions. Dana Tippin Cutler will moderate the panel.

Annual Meeting will also feature four track sessions – business, family law, litigation, and probate – that will highlight timely and relevant educational programs designed to make a difference in lawyers’ practices.

There will be a YLS Series with three sessions developed by the Young Lawyers’ Section that are relevant to new and seasoned lawyers alike and an Ethics Series featuring two sessions that will give lawyers a chance to hear from Missouri’s chief disciplinary counsel and legal ethics counsel.
