Juror Appreciation Week How Do I

Across Missouri, jurors play a pivotal part in carrying out the U.S. constitutional promise of a trial by jury. In fact, 75,181 Missourians reported for jury duty in state courts in the 2017 fiscal year, which runs from July 1-June 30.

To recognize this important work, The Missouri Bar encourages judges, lawyers and court clerks to celebrate Juror Appreciation Week and take time to emphasize how vital jurors are to our courts, communities and legal system. This year, Juror Appreciation Week is April 29-May 5, 2018.

There are several ways that courthouses and officials can observe the event, including the following:

  • Display courthouse decorations and signs honoring jurors. The Missouri Bar provides free posters and stickers for the occasion; order them here.
  • Set up information booths to distribute buttons, fliers, etc.
  • Coordinate ceremonies, programs or special greetings from judges to jurors.
  • Gift coupons, snacks or other items to jurors.
  • Present certificates of appreciation for jurors.
  • Ask the mayor or another local government official to proclaim April 29-May 5, 2018 as Juror Appreciation Week.
  • Spread the word via social media using #ThankAJuror. Share photos of your judges, court staff or firm showing their appreciation during the week by hanging a poster or wearing a lapel sticker.

To help prepare the week, it’s useful to designate an individual or group to be responsible for coordinating events and actions.
