How do I... Make the most of Fall Enrollment Ceremonies

You’ve completed all the steps to become a Missouri lawyer – and now it’s time to celebrate! Follow these tips to make the most of the Fall Enrollment Ceremonies, while also keeping stress levels low.

The 2021 Fall Enrollment Ceremonies will occur at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 outside on the Missouri State Capitol grounds. If you passed the 2021 July Bar Exam and have met all admission eligibility requirements, you — and your immediate family — are invited to attend (mask and social distancing required) the celebration.

The ceremony is an exciting event where you’ll take the oath of admission and be welcomed to the profession by the judges of the Supreme Court of Missouri, officers of The Missouri Bar, and members of the Board of Law Examiners.

Here are a few pointers to help you make the most of the day:

Park in the right spot. There is a public parking garage on Madison Street, two blocks east and one block north of the the Capitol and Supreme Court Building. Meter parking is available on various streets downtown.

Know where to go. Your first stop is registration on the south lawn of the Capitol Building (201 W. Capitol Ave.) – across from Arris Pizza – where you will check in, pick up your license and oath, and receive welcome materials. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Admission ceremonies will last about 20 minutes and will take place in the same space, with distanced chairs for enrollees to sit in. Guests should plan to bring chairs or stand if enrollees occupy all available seating. Those unable to attend the outdoor ceremony in person can watch along via The Missouri Bar’s Facebook page, where the ceremony will be live streamed. If there is inclement weather, the ceremony will be held virtually. If the outdoor ceremony is canceled and moved to a virtual platform, all eligible applicants will receive an email on Sept. 30 containing instructions to access the virtual ceremony.

Remember to sign the Roll of Attorneys. As you check in, make sure to sign the Roll of Attorneys. These contain the names of all lawyers enrolled by the courts, and you should ensure your name is included. If the ceremony is virtual, the Roll of Attorneys will be available during subsequent Missouri Bar events.

Look Sharp. Enrollees are expected to dress in business attire for both the outdoor and virtual (if inclement weather) ceremonies. Revealing clothing and jeans are not appropriate. Don't forget your mask!

Mingle with Missouri Bar leaders. As a new lawyer, you have many great resources at your disposal. We provide a host of information online at mobar.org/new-members, but, on enrollment day, the president, executive director, members of the Young Lawyers’ Section Council, and staff of The Missouri Bar will be available to answer questions.

Take lots of photos. Enrollment ceremonies are a time to have fun! Missouri Bar staff will be onsite with photo props, and an “Officially a Missouri Lawyer!” Snapchat filter will be available. Share your images from the day on social media using #NewMOLawyers or tagging @MoBarNews for the chance to be featured.
