How do I…make the most of the 2022 Spring Enrollment Ceremony?

You’ve completed all the steps to become a Missouri lawyer – and now it’s time to celebrate! Follow these tips to make the most of the Spring Enrollment Ceremony, while also keeping stress levels low.

The 2022 Spring Enrollment Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on April 22 on the south lawn of the Missouri State Capitol Building. If you passed the February 2022 Bar Exam and met all admission eligibility requirements, you — and your immediate family — are invited to attend the enrollment ceremony and celebrate this amazing accomplishment.

The ceremony is an exciting event where you’ll take the oath of admission and be welcomed to the profession by the judges of the Supreme Court of Missouri, officers of The Missouri Bar, and members of the Board of Law Examiners.

Here are a few tips to help you make the most of the day:

Park in the right spot. There is a public parking garage on Madison Street, two blocks east and one block north of the State Capitol. Meter parking is available on various streets downtown.

Know where to go. Your first stop is registration on the south lawn of the Capitol Building (201 W. Capitol Ave.) – across from the Supreme Court of Missouri Building – where you will check in, pick up your license and oath, and receive welcome materials. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. The enrollment ceremony will run about 20-30 minutes in length and will take place in the same space. Guests should plan to bring chairs or stand if enrollees occupy all available seating. Those unable to attend the ceremony in person can watch via The Missouri Bar’s Facebook page, where the ceremony will be live streamed.

Be prepared for inclement weather. If there is inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the Capitol Rotunda, on the first floor. Enrollees should go to the south entrance of the Capitol, and signs will direct enrollees to the registration area. Guests should proceed to the screening area inside the Capitol. There will be limited guest seating available on the second floor and no guest seating on the first floor of the Rotunda as those seats will be reserved for enrollees. Guests cannot bring chairs into the Capitol.

Remember to sign the Roll of Attorneys. As you check in, make sure to sign the Roll of Attorneys. These contain the names of all lawyers enrolled by the courts, and you should ensure your name is included. If the ceremony is virtual, the Roll of Attorneys will be available during subsequent Missouri Bar events.

Look Sharp. Enrollees are expected to dress in business attire for the enrollment ceremony. Revealing clothing and jeans are not appropriate. Face masks are optional.

Mingle with Missouri Bar leaders. As a new lawyer, you have many great resources at your disposal. On enrollment day, the president, executive director, members of the Young Lawyers’ Section Council, and staff of The Missouri Bar will be available to answer questions. We also provide a host of information online at mobar.org/new-members

Take lots of photos. Your enrollment ceremony is a time to have fun! Missouri Bar staff will be onsite with photo props, and an “Officially a Missouri Lawyer!” Snapchat filter will be available. Share your images from the day on social media using #NewMOLawyers or tagging @MoBarNews for the chance to be featured.

Welcome to the profession. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
