Jennifer Alter-Rieken, age 43, of St. Louis, on March 22, 2023. Alter-Rieken earned her JD from The University of Missouri School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 2006. She practiced at the Law Office of Jennifer Alter-Rieken.

James Bell, age 73, of Overland Park, KS, on May 18, 2023. Bell earned his JD from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1978. Bell was a trial lawyer with the Jackson County prosecutor's office and an associate with the Law Firm of Beaird and Cardarella before opening his own firm focused on plaintiff civil litigation and criminal defense. Bell served in the U.S. Navy.

William Coghill Jr., age 96 of Phoenix, AZ, on July 25, 2023. Coghill practiced with the FBI; Smith, Smith & Coghill; Coburn & Croft; Pope & Driemeyer, and Thompson & Mitchell. He earned his law degree from the University of Missouri School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1950. Coghill served in the U.S. Navy.

Michael F. Dandino, age 72, of St. Peters, on April 15, 2023. Dandino attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1975. He began his career working for Jackson County, advising officials on government law. Following time in private practice, he began working for the State of Missouri Office of Public Counsel, serving as a consumer advocate.

Eric William Evans, age 55, of Granite City, IL, on July 7, 2023. Evans earned his law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1993.

Robert J. (Bob) Foley, age 82, of St. Louis, on March 17, 2023. Foley earned his JD from John Marshall School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1979.  

Roger Goldman, age 82, of St. Louis, on July 29, 2023. Goldman attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1966. Goldman was a professor at Saint Louis University School of Law, where he was named teacher of the year three times. He served twice as associate dean and once as interim dean. In 2017, the law school inducted him into its Order of the Fleur de Lis.

Keith W. Hicklin, age 73, of Columbia, on Aug. 23, 2023. Hicklin earned his law degree from The University of Missouri School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1977. Hicklin most recently practiced with Witt, Hicklin, Snider & Fain, P.C.

Darryl L. Hicks, age 84, of Warrenton, on June 12, 2023. Hicks obtained his law degree from University of Missouri School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1963. Hicks served as prosecuting attorney for Warren County and city attorney for Marthasville, Wright City, and Warrenton.

Dean “Dino” Hoag, age 74, of St. Louis, on July 15, 2023. Hoag was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1976 and served as an assistant U.S. attorney for nearly 40 years, primarily in the Organized Crime and Drug Task Force Unit.

Hon. Bert Hurn, age 98, of Neosho, on June 11, 2023. Hurn attended the University of Missouri School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1948. Hurn started and ended his legal career in private practice. He was appointed as the city attorney for Granby; city attorney for Neosho; Neosho municipal court judge; and Newton County prosecuting attorney. He was later appointed to serve as a United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri in Kansas City.

Charles B. Jellinek, age 55, of St. Louis, on June 18, 2023. Jellinek earned his JD from Washington University School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1993. He was an assistant attorney general before joining Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner.

Jared Seth Kalina, age 55, of St. Louis, on Jan. 27, 2023. Kalina joined The Missouri Bar in 2017 and practiced with Gamache & Myers, P.C.

Karl H. Lemp Jr., age 63 of Kirkwood, on Aug. 8, 2023. Lemp was in private practice and attended Dayton University Law School. He was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1989.

David EF Lodike, age 57, of Ellisville, on Feb. 26, 2023. Lodike had a career in the financial services industry and earned his JD from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2019. He was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 2021.

John Stephen Newberry, age 78, of Kansas City, on Jan. 12, 2023. Newberry was a decorated U.S. Army veteran. After service from 1967-1972, he earned his JD from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1976. Newberry served as the chief assistant prosecutor in Clay County from 1988 - 2000. Most recently, he was an associate for Mark A. Ferguson.

Joseph R. Niemann, age 77, of St. Louis, on March 3, 2023. Niemann attended Saint Louis University School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1970. He served as the City of St. Louis' city counselor; directed the legal operations for St. Louis Lambert Airport; and was a partner in Armstrong Teasdale.

James E. Phelps, age 80, of Brentwood, on March 29, 2023. Phelps earned his JD from Saint Louis University School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1967. Phelps served as a judge advocate general in the U.S. Navy before practicing for 50 years at his Clayton law firm.

Nicole Sherise Pleasant, age 38, of St. Louis, on July 4, 2023. She attended Saint Louis University School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 2014. She was the owner of The Pleasant Group.

George Joseph Skupnik Jr., age 72, of St. Louis, on April 6, 2023. Skupnik attended Saint Louis University School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1975. He joined the law firm of Kramer and Frank P.C., rising to principle in 1985 and retiring in 2017.

Hon. William Erwin Turnage, age 98, of Jacksonville, FL, on March 14, 2023. Turnage was a decorated U.S. Army veteran. He attended Washington University School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1950. He practiced in the law firm of Sevier and Turnage until his appointment to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, by Governor Bond in 1974. Following his retirement from the appellate court, he served as a senior judge until 2009.
