‘Is It Legal To…?’: Disability law

Think of four adults in your life – statistically, at least one of them has a disability. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 28% of Missourians have a disability, slightly higher than the national average of 26%. The Social Security Administration adds a 20-year-old worker has a one-in-four chance of developing a disability before they hit retirement age.

Many struggle to cover the expenses associated with their disability – creating another layer of stress. One in three adults between 18-44 years old with disabilities had an unmet healthcare need due to the cost within the past year, the CDC states.

Jason Krebs is a personal injury, disability, and workers compensation lawyer with Krebs Law Firm in Springfield. In The Missouri Bar’s newest “Is It Legal To…?” episode, Krebs walks listeners through the types of disability benefits and the ins-and-outs of qualifying for, filing for, and receiving disability benefits – as well as how those benefits can help alleviate an already stressful situation.
