James Young celebrated for family law work

James H. Young has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Roger P. Krumm Family Law Award. The award honors a family law lawyer who has demonstrated an exceptional degree of competence, skill, integrity, commitment and dedication toward the improvement and advancement of the practice of family law and the children and families involved in family law matters. It is presented in honor of Roger Krumm.

"(Jim) personifies this award," said his nominator. "[He] has been a pillar of our family law community."

Young is the founder of the Law Office of Young and Kuhl, LLC and has been practicing family law for 30 years. In 2019, he transitioned from his traditional domestic relations law practice to become a full-time mediator, where he specializes in family law issues, including custody, parenting time, property division and more, in both Kansas and Missouri.   

Young graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law. He is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, as well as former president of the Missouri chapter of AAML.Young is active iThe Missouri Bar’s Family Law Section and spent two terms (2001-2003) on its executive council and as chair of the section. He is also a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and its Family Law Section, where he served as chair in 1995.  

Young serves as a special master for discovery and other financial issues; is active in a number of both multiple-county and statewide committees; and has been a frequent speaker at seminars, including discussing child support methodology and joint physical custody situations.
