Lawyers encouraged to participate in Well-Being Week in Law
No-cost CLE and more activities set for May 6-10
Numerous studies have confirmed that general wellness and mental health can impact a lawyer’s life – both at and outside of work. During Well-Being Week in Law, May 6-10, members of Missouri’s legal profession are invited to evaluate their own well-being.
The Missouri Bar, supported by the Missouri Lawyers’ Assistance Program and the Standing Committee on Well-Being in the Profession, will be sharing resources and learning opportunities focused on physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional well-being.
“Lawyer burnout is an epidemic,” said Megan Phillips, 2023-24 Missouri Bar president. “Let’s hereby resolve that it doesn’t have to be this way.”
As part of the event, lawyers can attend a no-cost, virtual CLE focused on how working with clients who are experiencing trauma impacts the lawyer as well. The session qualifies for ethics credit.
In addition, members are invited to tune in to a live, guided meditation webinar; listen to fellow lawyers discussing their own mental health; and read up on various aspects of well-being through a series of articles written by MOLAP staff. The week is also an opportunity for firms to consider adopting a model policy which can be a valuable tool for law firms when addressing a lawyer’s substance use and mental health.
Well-Being Week in Law is a national movement spearheaded by the Institute for Well-Being in Law. Learn more about its history, as well as how you can get involved, here. Join the conversation and find the latest news on lawyer well-being using #MOLawyersLivingWell.
