Lawyers, judges speak to more than 2,000 Missouri students during Constitution Day presentations

Each year, The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section partners with the bar’s citizenship education department to send lawyers to present to students for Constitution Day. This year, more than 2,000 students across the state had the opportunity to learn about the U.S. Constitution from those who regularly interact with it.  

Many teachers expressed their appreciation for the program and its effect on their students, including Veronica King of Hogan Preparatory Academy in Kansas City. 

“Hogan Preparatory Academy was lucky to receive three amazing presenters,” King said.  “The scholars at HPA worked hard in preparation for the attorneys' and judge's visit and were excited to ask them questions about their rights, the U.S. government, and the Constitution. Some scholars were inspired and now see the possibility of pursuing a career in law. It was an amazing experience and opportunity!” 

Danielle Atchison, a member of the YLS Civic Education and Outreach Committee, said she is proud of the work the committee has done this year by connecting more than 60 schools with lawyers and judges.  

“I am amazed at the work [YLS] Council members have done to make sure we bring the bench and bar to all Missouri teachers and students who want to hear from us,” Atchison said. “I know for sure it is making a difference, as I heard from one teacher that the program is ‘changing lives.’”
