Meet #MOLawyers: Jordan Barry

Jordan Barry was sworn into The Missouri Bar on April 25 during the Spring Enrollment Ceremonies at the Supreme Court of Missouri building in Jefferson City. Originally from St. Louis, Barry graduated from the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

How does it feel to officially be a Missouri lawyer? 

Great! It’s been a journey, so I’m very, very happy to finally be in the bar here in Missouri. It’s home. 

Is there a particular area of law you are interested in? 

Not necessarily. I did a little work in criminal law while I was in law school. I did … some personal injury and some civil work. I’m now looking into workers’ compensation, also helping small businesses establish their business structures ... I am open and excited and ready to join the world of lawyers. 

How does it feel to have your family at your enrollment ceremony to support you? 

It feels amazing because without them this was so, so not possible ... It feels like this is their certificate, essentially. 

What made you want to become a lawyer? 

My passion for advocacy. I’ve been an advocate since a small child, so being able to step into that gap and bridge the gap between the law and constituents and citizens who don’t understand legalese, who don’t understand the law, the Constitution, and things of that sort … I want to be able to explain that in layman’s terms and be able to help them be the best that they can in the United States.
