Meet #MOLawyers: Khalfani Mar'Na

Khalfani Mar’Na was sworn into The Missouri Bar on April 26, 2024, during the Spring Enrollment Ceremony at the Supreme Court of Missouri in Jefferson City. A St. Louis native, Mar’Na graduated from Northern Illinois University School of Law and plans to practice law in the St. Louis area.

How does it feel to be a new Missouri lawyer? 

It feels amazing. Lots of years of hard work and support from my family and friends, so it feels great. 

How has the support from family and friends helped you become a lawyer? 

You have support from your classmates in law school, which is great, but it’s always nice to be able to pick up the phone and call home and have someone to listen to and talk you through those moments, especially around finals time. 

What are you looking forward to about being a lawyer? 

Doing good things for others. Now, I can spend the rest of my career being the best lawyer possible. I’m excited to meet other lawyers who have been doing this for quite some time and learning from them. I’m also excited to utilize the resources through The Missouri Bar. 

What advice would you give to law students? 

Know the resources that are available. If you can, work with other lawyers. As you start to prepare for the bar exam, take your time. Recognize that you’ve done hard things, and you can do hard things. 

What was your favorite memory from law school? 

Northern Illinois University Law Review was the most fun that I had in law school. I graduated during the COVID-19 pandemic, so Law Review was still a chance to connect with other editors as we were graduating.
