Meet your new Board of Governor: Christina Lewis Abate

Christina Lewis Abate, vice president of underwriting at The Bar Plan, was selected last month to represent lawyers in District 9, and she has several goals for her time on the board.

During its Nov. 19 meeting, The Missouri Bar Board of Governors elected Abate to fill a vacancy in District 9, which represents St. Louis County. The vacancy was created when John Gunn became immediate past president.

Abate has served in numerous roles for The Missouri Bar, including on the Young Lawyers’ Section Council, ABA House of Delegates, and several committees. At the Bar Association of Metropolitan Saint Louis, she serves as a member-at-large on its Board of Governors and as co-chair for The BAMSL Motion for Kids Holiday Party. She is also the president-elect of The Saint Louis Bar Foundation.

Here are the goals Abate wants to accomplish while serving on the board.

What made you interested in joining the Board of Governors?

Throughout my legal career, I have enjoyed serving The Missouri Bar through committees and appointments. The Board of Governors position provides a new leadership perspective and the opportunity to connect with lawyers locally and across the state.

What part of being on the board are you most excited about?

I am excited to promote the various leadership opportunities and services that The Missouri Bar provides to lawyers throughout the many stages of their legal careers.

What do you want the lawyers you represent to know?

The Missouri Bar is here to serve the needs of all lawyers whether they practice in a firm, for the government, or in a corporate setting. If there is an issue or practice area that you feel needs greater visibility, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

What do you enjoy most about The Missouri Bar?

I enjoy connecting with other Missouri lawyers, exchanging ideas, and collaborating to improve the practice for all lawyers.

This summer, Missouri lawyers, voting in districts throughout the state, elected two new members – Hon. Tracey Mason-White and LaceShionna Cline – to the 45-member Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar. Board members are elected to serve two-year terms, which begin with the bar’s Annual Meeting in late September.
