Meet your new YLS Council Member for the Southern Appellate Diversity Seat

The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section works to facilitate the professional growth and public service of newly admitted Missouri lawyers. Syd Tippie from Springfield has recently been elected to join the council. Last year, the YLS Council decided to expand its diversity seats to match those of The Missouri Bar Board of Governors. These diversity seats are divided among the three appellate districts in the state. Tippie is now the diversity seat representative for the Southern Appellate District.

What are you most looking forward to in your role as a YLS Council member? I am looking forward to working with other members in the profession to make a positive impact on my peers. Creating and fostering an inclusive atmosphere for everyone to have a voice.

What do you want other young lawyers to learn about the YLS or The Missouri Bar? I want young lawyers in the profession to know about the resources that YLS and The Missouri Bar offers. Whether that means you are beginning a solo practitioner firm, need mentorship within your area of law, or if you or someone you know needs resources for substance use or mental health.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off? My favorite way to spend the day off is gardening. Anyone who knows me, knows one of my passions is hobby farming.

Why do you think diversity on the council is important? As Martin Luther King, Jr. said “We must learn to live together as brothers and sisters or perish together as fools.”
