Meet your new YLS District 3 representative: Justin Shock

The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section Council recently elected Justin Shock to represent District 3 (Jackson County).

YLS works to facilitate the professional growth and public service of new and recently admitted Missouri lawyers. The YLS Council is comprised of approximately 35 lawyers from districts across the state who are elected by their peers to serve two-year terms.

Shock earned his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2024. He is an associate attorney at Baty Otto Scheer P.C. in Kansas City.

Shock answered the following questions to help his constituents get to know him.

What are you most looking forward to in your role as a YLS Council member?

“I’m excited to join the CLE Committee and help build a robust presentation schedule that introduces young attorneys to a wide range of legal fields — including those they may not have encountered before.”

What made you want to be a lawyer in the first place?

“My uncle, Judge Shock, inspired me to become a lawyer; I suppose the desire to practice law runs in family! I’ve always admired how his work, both in private practice and on the bench, allowed him to make a real difference in people’s lives.”

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?

“I enjoy golfing or flying with friends. I’m currently working on my pilot’s license — definitely a better way to beat I-70 traffic!”

Is there anything that you would like members of the bar to know about you?

"I enjoy meeting new people — if you’re ever in the Kansas City area for work, feel free to reach out. I’d love to grab lunch!”
