Meet your new YLS District 3 representative: Kelly St. John
The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section Council recently elected Kelly St. John to represent District 3, which includes Jackson County.
YLS works to facilitate the professional growth and public service of new and recently admitted Missouri lawyers. The YLS Council is comprised of approximately 35 lawyers from districts across the state who are elected by their peers to serve two-year terms.
St. John earned her J.D. from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law and is the lead lawyer at DM Injury Law’s Topeka office.
St. John answered the following questions to help her constituents get to know her.
What do you want other young lawyers to know about the YLS or The Missouri Bar?
"I want young lawyers to know they’re not alone. Whether you’re in private practice, government work, a small or solo firm, or in-house counsel, there are others walking the same path. The YLS and The Missouri Bar offer incredible resources and a supportive community of lawyers who genuinely want to help you succeed. Whether you need advice, mentorship, or just a sense of connection, there’s always someone willing to help. It’s a wonderful network of people all working toward the same goal — supporting one another and strengthening Missouri’s legal community.”
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?
"My favorite way to spend a day off is by unplugging: putting down my phone, avoiding my computer, and spending time outside. When it’s a nice morning, I love grabbing a fancy coffee and taking my dog to the bark park to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, I’ll take the opportunity to catch up on my favorite shows. In such a busy world, it’s so important to take time for yourself. Prioritize your own well-being — because if you don’t, no one else will!”
Is there anything that you would like members of the bar to know about you?
"I truly enjoy networking and connecting with others. I’m a naturally positive and upbeat person, and I hope to inspire that same energy in those around me. Life is too short to miss out on family moments, vacations, or taking a day to reset. I’m always happy to lend an ear, grab a meal, or join you at a committee meeting — especially if you don’t know anyone yet. I look forward to meeting more members of the bar and building meaningful connections!”
