Meet your new YLS District 4 representative: Joseph Findley

The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section Council recently elected Joseph Findley to represent District 4 (Cass, Clay, Johnson, Lafayette, Platte, and Ray counties). 

YLS works to facilitate the professional growth and public service of new and recently admitted Missouri lawyers. The YLS Council is comprised of approximately 35 lawyers from districts across the state who are elected by their peers to serve two-year terms.    

Findley earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2020. He is an assistant prosecuting attorney with Platte County.  

Findley answered the following questions to help his constituents get to know him. 

What do you want other young lawyers to learn about YLS or The Missouri Bar? 

“Coming out of law school does not fully prepare you for the practice of law. YLS gives young attorneys access to other younger attorneys who have been practicing longer in a particular practice area to help answer questions. I've personally seen it countless times where someone reaches out with a question on a particular topic, and several people are quick to respond with assistance or guidance. It is one of the bright points of The Missouri Bar and a great example of how collegial the profession is.” 

What is your favorite way to spend a day off? 

“I love spending time with my wife and two young boys. My oldest one (almost 3 years old) is obsessed with trains and we do things related to trains in the KC area. Outside of family time, I enjoy rebuilding my project car — which at this point has become a glorified yard ornament.” 

Is there anything that you would like members of the bar to know about you? 

“I like to think I am very personable and approachable. Whether that be in the law or everyday life, I enjoy talking and getting to know people, so do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or just want to chat!”
