Meet your new YLS District 8 representative: Steven “Mik” Ebert

The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section Council recently elected Steven “Mik” Ebert to represent District 8 (St. Louis County).
YLS works to facilitate the professional growth and public service of new and recently admitted Missouri lawyers. The YLS Council is comprised of approximately 35 lawyers from districts across the state who are elected by their peers to serve two-year terms.
A graduate of the Washington University School of Law, Ebert is a prosecuting attorney for the Special Victims Unit with the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Ebert answered the following questions to help his constituents get to know him.
What are you most looking forward to in your role as a YLS Council member?
“I am most looking forward to continuing my service to The Missouri Bar and Missouri lawyers from my previous work on the Leadership Academy. I hope to continue to improve engagement with young lawyers across the state and help in any way that I can.”
Who is your personal hero?
“My personal hero is my father. The only reason I am in my current position, a lawyer, or any semblance of the person I am today is because of him. Not only has he been an impeccable role model for me in work ethic, relationships, and generally how to handle life, but both him and my mother sacrificed so much to give me what I have. I’d pick both of them if I was allowed to have two heroes.”
What made you want to be a lawyer?
“I was convinced to be a lawyer by a professor in undergrad, but it was my time as a summer camp counselor that made me want to do the sort of work I do now. I was disclosed to as a camp counselor by a victim, and that has never left me. While a lot of other areas of law probably wouldn’t do it for me, I am incredibly thankful to have a job that I am passionate about.”
