Meet your new YLS District 9 representative: David Wasserman
David Wasserman was recently elected to represent District 9 (St. Louis City) on The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section Council. YLS works to facilitate the professional growth and public service of new and recently admitted Missouri lawyers. The YLS Council is comprised of approximately 35 lawyers from districts across the state who are elected by their peers to serve two-year terms.
Wasserman is an associate with UB Greensfelder where he defends employers in both state and federal courts against allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and breach of contract. He also provides clients with compliance training and day-to-day advice. He earned his J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law.
Wasserman answered the following questions to help his constituents get to know him.
What are you most looking forward to in your role as a YLS Council member?
“I look forward to giving back to this profession that has given so much to me. I particularly want to continue planning events that provide opportunities for young Missouri lawyers to meet and connect with one another.”
What do you want other young lawyers to learn about the YLS or The Missouri Bar?
“I hope other young lawyers learn about the many events put on by YLS and The Missouri Bar. There are so many opportunities to get involved and meet other lawyers from all over the state. Taking advantage of these opportunities has been so rewarding for me. It always reminds me that our profession is much more than the hours we bill or the cases we take; it's a common calling, and it's composed of a group of individuals that value justice and making a difference in their communities.”
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?
“On the tennis court or the pickleball court. I'm also a film buff and enjoy spending a Sunday night at the movie theater.”
Is there anything you would like to add?
“I am already indebted to YLS because it is how I met my husband, Cort VanOstran. I received and responded to an email from him in 2020 when he ran for YLS, and the rest is history!”
