Missouri Bar welcomes new lawyers, holds outdoor ceremony

The Missouri Bar welcomed 432 new lawyers to the profession Friday, Sept. 25, following the July 2020 Bar Exam.  

The day included an outdoor celebration held on the Missouri State Capitol grounds in Jefferson City, where around 190 of the new enrollees were sworn into the profession by Chief Justice George W. Draper III. The sunny ceremony also featured remarks from 2020-21 Missouri Bar President John Gunn, who addressed the new lawyers and their guests, all of whom were socially distanced and wearing masks. 

Traditionally, Enrollment Ceremonies take place in the Supreme Court of Missouri building and inside the Capitol. Modifications to the day occurred with COVID-19 precautions in mind. The Missouri Bar also streamed the event live on Facebook for those unable to attend.

In addition, The Missouri Bar and its Young Lawyers’ Section sent welcome packets toall of the state’s enrollees,offering support andresources for their professional road ahead.YLS also hosted a virtual welcome later that afternoon via video conferencing.
