Missouri lawyers helped more than 1,100 Missourians through Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org since January
Since January, dozens of lawyers have helped close the access to legal services gap by volunteering 415 hours of their time to assist more than 1,100 Missourians through Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org.
Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org is a free virtual legal advice clinic where qualifying users can post civil legal questions to be answered by volunteer lawyers. This service is provided as a partnership between the American Bar Association and The Missouri Bar. There are no other online formats in Missouri to submit civil legal questions and receive pro bono answers.
Volunteer lawyers can sign in from anywhere they have internet access to answer questions on their own schedule. Volunteers are covered by malpractice insurance for advice given on the platform.
2026 data (Jan. 1-July 31)
1,782 new users signed up in 2026.
Of the 1,541 questions submitted so far this year, 47 volunteer lawyers responded to 1,234 of those questions, assisting 1,183 Missourians, and donating more than 415 hours of their time providing legal answers. The response rate for 2026 so far is 80%.

The American Bar Association launched Free Legal Answers nationally in 2016. Forty-two states and other U.S. jurisdictions participate in the ABA Free Legal Answers program. The Missouri Bar has offered Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org to Missourians since 2017.
Besides state websites, the program includes a federal portal that addresses legal questions from all over the U.S. related to veterans and immigration issues. The national program recently surpassed 500,000 total responses.
