#MoBarNews: August 2022 recap

The Missouri Bar’s Annual Meeting is right around the corner on Sept. 14, and some of August’s most popular stories focused on noteworthy individuals and award winners who will be featured at the conference in Springfield. Here is a summary of last month’s top articles!

Lon O. Hocker Award winners

This year’s Lon O. Hocker Awards will be presented to Christopher L. Accurso, Tim Cronin, and Philip M. Fuhrman at the 2022 Annual Meeting of The Missouri Bar for their admirable work as trial lawyers.

The Missouri Bar Foundation awards the Lon O. Hocker Award to three trial lawyers under the age of 40 who demonstrate zealousness, honor, strength, courtesy, confidence, and respect. The lawyers are selected from three different regions: St. Louis, Kansas City, and all other counties. Established in 1954, the award is named after Lon O. Hocker, a well-respected trial lawyer who practiced in St. Louis for more than 50 years. Learn more about these outstanding trial lawyers here.

Volunteer answers 1,000 questions on Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org

In June, Robert Pennell achieved an impressive goal – answering 1,000 questions on the Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org online platform, becoming only the second volunteer lawyer since the site’s launch in 2017 to reach this extraordinary milestone.

Pennell is one of 288 registered volunteers with the program and has been an active volunteer since early 2017. Read more about Pennell’s story here.

David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Award recipients

This year’s David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Award honorees are Kate Merwald, Kristen S. Johnson, and Derek Ankrom. The David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Award was created by The Missouri Bar Foundation to recognize outstanding achievement in appellate practice by young members of The Missouri Bar.

The award is named after the late Judge Dixon, whose tenacity, professionalism, and judicial skills epitomize outstanding appellate practice. This recognition goes to three lawyers under the age of 40 who perform outstanding appellate work. Learn more about these remarkable appellate lawyers here.
