MoBar.org downtime set for early morning hours April 26

Ongoing technology upgrades enhance services, data security

The Missouri Bar will be replacing its servers on Wednesday, April 26, starting at 5 a.m. The upgrade window is scheduled for up to four hours. During that time, MoBar.org and its features will be unavailable. This includes MyMCLE reporting, MoBarCLE, connect.MOBAR, and resources in the Member Portal such as the Member Directory, Fastcase, and the MAI-Criminal Jury Instructions.

The planned server replacement reflects the Board of Governors’ commitment to continually improve the many technology-based resources and services The Missouri Bar provides to lawyers as well as support of the bar’s responsibility to maintain the official database of licensed lawyers for the Supreme Court of Missouri.

Jason Cecil, chief technology officer of The Missouri Bar, said the replacement of the organization’s servers helps ensure these services and follows recommended best data security practices.

“The Missouri Bar is dedicated to helping lawyers better serve their clients and communities,” Cecil said. “Updating our servers will help ensure safe and user-friendly services available to Missouri lawyers.”

Cecil noted the server replacement requires the IP address – a unique identifier used to communicate between devices on a network – affiliated with MoBar.org to also be changed. Cecil said for most users, their web browser will redirect MoBar.org visitors to the updated IP address with little to no delay once the downtime period ends. Unfortunately, a small percentage of users may experience trouble reaching MoBar.org while the Domain Name System is being updated. This propagation window could take up to 24 hours.

“We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience during the scheduled upgrade window and subsequent DNS propagation to the new IP address,” Cecil added.

Cecil said the server replacement builds on a series of technology-based improvements over the past five years, including MyMCLE online reporting, improved registration process for major conferences, an improved online fee payment process, and enhanced security through new password requirements and PINs.
