She has served on various business aviation industry committees, including the Part 125/135 Aviation Rulemaking Committee and the NBAA Regulatory Issues Advisory Group. Bob Murray, regional sales manager with The Bar Plan, has announced his retirement after 21 years of service. He has serviced our clients in the Kansas City area and the State of Kansas with distinction and he will be missed.

Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce five lawyers in the Kansas City area have been elected partners, continuing an established track record of internal advancement at the firm. The new partners include Stephanie Lovett-Bowman and Mike Seitz (Kansas City) and Stacy Harper, Crystal Howard and Reed Williams (Overland Park, Kansas). The elections to partnership were effective Jan. 1.Lovett-Bowman is a litigator and counselor who specializes in helping school districts and other educational institutions resolve disputes and implement best practices to proactively avoid risk and conflict. As a former investigative attorney for the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR), she has unique insight to advise educational institutions in responding to OCR and other governmental agency investigations.

Seitz is an experienced litigator who represents clients in complex civil litigation and appellate matters. He has handled cases with aggregate claims exceeding several billion dollars in potential liability and has experience in many areas affecting business clients, including contract law, copyright and trade secret litigation, class actions, professional malpractice, accounting disputes, fraud and unfair competition, racketeering, the False Claims Act, real estate disputes, and employment litigation.Harper counsels health care organizations on regulatory compliance, reimbursement and data security issues. Using her prior experience as a health care compliance officer, she assesses risks and develops strategies for clients to mitigate risk and improve compliance. She also develops plans to coordinate data privacy, data security and data breach response for health care providers, health plans, employer sponsors of self-insured health plans, and other businesses.Howard helps businesses and individuals structure business plans and transactions to resolve tax problems. She also represents clients in tax controversies before the IRS and state agencies and advises partnerships and corporations on all aspects of federal income taxation, including entity formation, reorganization and dissolution. Additionally, she counsels tax-exempt organizations on a variety of legal issues.

Williams helps health care providers in matters related to corporate governance, contractual obligations and management issues. He regularly drafts bylaws, risk management policies and other internal documents for health care professionals to ensure they are abiding by regulatory requirements, while also assisting his clients with all manner of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, joint ventures and strategic partnerships.

Brockland has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including being named a Top 40 Under 40 Trial Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers Association, a Missouri Lawyers Weekly Women’s Justice Awards Rising Star, and most recently, Influential Appellate Advocate by Missouri Lawyers Weekly.

In 2015, Brockland received the prestigious Lon O. Hocker Trial Lawyer Award, which is presented each year by The Missouri Bar to one trial attorney in the St. Louis area who exemplifies professionalism and high ethical conduct. Recipients must demonstrate a balance between zealousness and honor, strength and courtesy, and confidence and respect.

In 2013, Brockland received the John C. Shepherd Professionalism Award from the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BASML). This award is given annually to a St. Louis attorney 36 years or younger who exemplifies the BASML Tenants of Professionalism.

Brockland holds two undergraduate degrees in government and psychology. After graduating from Saint Louis University School of Law, she launched her career as a personal injury trial attorney, working twelve years at her previous firm before joining Casey & Devoti. She is licensed to practice in both Missouri and Illinois, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eight Circuit.

Brockland gives back to the community by serving as volunteer counsel for the Missouri Coalition for the Right to Counsel, Legal Services for Eastern Missouri and Voices for Vets.

In just twelve years as a personal injury trial lawyer, Brockland has built an impressive resume of successful case outcomes for her clients and professional accolades from her peers.
