Polsinelli is pleased to announce that two of its Kansas City-based lawyers have assumed leadership roles with the National Bar Association (NBA). The NBA is the nation’s oldest and largest national association of predominately African American lawyers, judges, educators and law students.

Melvin Sims, an associate and member of Polsinelli’s intellectual property department, has been re-elected to the NBA's Board of Governors where he will serve as Region VIII director for the second consecutive year. As Region VIII director, Sims governs Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota by performing duties and responsibilities in accordance with the NBA’s bylaws.

“For the past year, I’ve had the honor to serve my local and neighboring regions, representing Polsinelli and our commitment to diversity and inclusion in this role,” said Sims. “I’m proud to serve alongside our other board members who are hungry for change, propelling and inspiring me to do the same in the year ahead.”

Anthony Springfield, a shareholder who practices products liability and toxic tort litigation at the firm, joins Sims in the 2019-2020 term as Region VIII treasurer. In this position, Springfield will manage and oversee the financial affairs of the region, controlling and safeguarding its finances.

“Serving as Treasurer Region VIII is a great privilege, and one I approach with the same spirit and energy I give to my clients,” said Springfield. “I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Polsinelli through this position with such a highly-regarded organization that champions African American legal professionals in their career pursuits.”
