Next ‘The Milly Project’ film showing slated for Hannibal

The Young Lawyers’ Section of The Missouri Bar will present a continuing legal education program in Hannibal on Aug. 26 based on “The Milly Project,” a play created in Springfield that presents the real-life story of an enslaved woman named Milly Sawyers who battled the judicial system in 1835 and won her freedom.

The success of similar CLE programs in St. Louis and Kansas City recently prompted additional interest throughout the state for ongoing educational presentations based on the remarkable story of Sawyers and the complicated history it illustrates. Click here to view a trailer of the film adaptation of the play.

The program will begin with a reception including food and beverages, followed by a screening of the film adaptation of the play, and concluding with a panel discussion. The program qualifies for elimination of bias and ethics credit, but participants must stay for panel discussion of the film to receive CLE credit.
