Nicholas Adkins to serve on Legal Services of Southern Missouri Board of Directors

TW_Nicholas AdkinsThe Missouri Bar Board of Governors appointed Nicholas Adkins to the Legal Services of Southern Missouri Board of Directors during its Nov. 18 meeting.

LSSM provides legal representation and advice to low-income individuals and families residing within a 43-county service area to help ensure equal access to justice in civil matters. The board consists of 22 members comprised of lawyers and client directors.

Adkins is a Cape Girardeau lawyer who works at Little, Schellhammer, Richardson & Knowlan Law Offices, P.C., where he represents employees in workers’ compensation claims. Adkins will serve as a member of The Missouri Bar representing Service Area #2, comprised of the counties of Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Dunklin, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Perry, Ripley, Scott, and Stoddard.

Adkins’ attorney fees are on a contingency basis – meaning if he is unable to win his client’s case, the client does not owe any fees. This has helped provide immediate relief to low-income clients, Adkins said.

“There are others that need legal services where a contingent fee is often not applicable, and that is why the Legal Services of Southern Missouri, and the attorneys that participate in this outstanding service, are so important — to provide legal assistance and access to the court system for those that could not otherwise afford counsel,” Adkins said.

Adkins’ term will expire Aug. 31, 2028.
