Nicole Roberts joins Missouri Bar communications staff

Nicole Roberts believes everyone has an interesting story to tell – whether they realize it or not.

As aassistant editor and communications coordinator for The Missouri Bar, she shares about legal topics, and the people involved in them, on MoBar.org and the Journal of the Missouri Bar to help lawyers even better serve their clients and assist Missourians in better understanding their rights and the legal system.

“I feel like, in a way, I’m helping others by writing about people and topics,” Roberts said. “Through the stories I write, readers could learn about interesting resources, pick up useful tips, be motivated to get involved, or participate in some positive way.”

Roberts joined The Missouri Bar staff at the end of 2020. Before stepping into the position, Roberts was a reporter at the Jefferson City News Tribune, covering city government and local business. She also served as the paper’s first community engagement editor, where she worked to foster the newspaper’s relationships with organizations and individuals through social media content, videos, podcasts, events, contests, and other activities.

Roberts earned her journalism stripes while reporting and editing for The Standard, Missouri State University’s student newspaper. She earned her bachelor’s degree from MSU in 2017. When the role of assistant editor and communications coordinator was advertised for The Missouri Bar, Roberts quickly knew that it fit her professional goals.

I wanted to find a way that I could redirect, challenge, and grow the valuable skills I gained while working at the News Tribune,” Roberts said. But most of all, I wanted to feel like I was still helping others while developing my skills.

Roberts also enjoys that the role includes learning from and working with lawyers from across the state.

Every day is different and holds a new adventure that I get to explore,” Roberts said. “A large portion of my job is literally chatting with different people and learning as much information as I possibly can about various topics so I can better communicate and help others, which I think is pretty neat! To the readers of the blog and journal, send us story ideas or let us know what legal topics you are interested in.
