Nominations are now open for 2022-2023 Leadership Academy

Nominate a young lawyer-leader through June 24, 2022

What started as a casual conversation at a restaurant has turned into a program that has produced more than 200 leaders in the legal profession over the last 20+ years. Now, it’s your turn to help nominate the next class of leaders. The Missouri Bar is now accepting nominations for its 2022-23 Leadership Academy class.

The Missouri Bar’s Leadership Academy was founded in 2000 to foster engagement in the state bar among young or recently admitted lawyers who are already outstanding community leaders. Since that time, dozens of lawyers have completed the training program and committed to continued service and professional growth through bar interactions.

Leadership Academy participants train with the Board of Governors, committee chairs, and Missouri Bar staff; attend leadership development workshops and bar meetings; and complete a group service project. Each participant subsequently commits to two additional years of active service in The Missouri Bar. Following their time in the program, past Leadership Academy members have been elected to the Board of Governors and the Young Lawyers’ Section Council; volunteered as MoBarCLE speakers and authors; served as committee chairs; and more.

Participants may be nominated by fellow lawyers; their firms or coworkers; and local or specialty bars. Because lawyers from underrepresented areas broaden and strengthen The Missouri Bar, the Leadership Academy seeks diversity in gender, race, area of practice, and locality of practice.

Generally, each class is limited to 12 or fewer members. To nominate a young or new (under the age of 40 or less than 10 years of practice) Missouri Bar member for the Leadership Academy class, complete an online form by June 24, 2022. All submissions must include the nominee’s name, address, and telephone phone number, along with a brief description of their leadership activities and skills.

All nominees will receive and be asked to complete a separate application. Those accepted into the Leadership Academy will be notified after the selection committee makes its determination.

The Missouri Bar’s Leadership Academy was developed under the direction of former Missouri Bar Presidents Michael P. Gunn and Dana Tippin Cutler.
