Plenary speaker Danielle Atchison to talk solo, small firm ethical dilemmas at MOSOLO24

As a small firm practitioner, Danielle Atchison understands the various hats solo and small firm lawyers wear daily – being everything from lawyer to business owner to human resources director. But serving in this many roles could open lawyers up to ethical dilemmas.

Atchison will help lawyers understand the top 10 ethical issues they face and how to mitigate those problems during the Saturday closing plenary at the MOSOLO Small Firm Conference, set Thursday through Saturday (June 6-8) online and at Osage Beach.

“We recognize solo and small firms are businesses, but we aren’t necessarily trained in business,” Atchison said. “So, what do we do if we receive a comingled check from the client that has trust money and operating money in it? What do we do with advertising dollars knowing the ethical rules are narrow for us as lawyers? What do we do when we’re under water with cases, and things are blowing up left and right that we couldn’t have anticipated?”

Atchison, a business immigration lawyer at Mdivani Corporate Immigration Law Firm in Overland Park, Kansas, reviewed reports from the Office of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel, chatted with fellow lawyers, and researched problems solo and small firm practitioners face. In her presentation, she’ll list real-life examples and brainstorm solutions with the audience.

Atchison’s session is one of 60-plus CLE programs and networking opportunities offered at this year’s MOSOLO Small Firm Conference.
