Professional development opportunities available for Missouri social studies, government teachers
Missouri social studies and government teachers will have the opportunity to explore current topics, receive classroom-ready materials, and learn from members of the legal community with two upcoming events from The Missouri Bar Citizenship Education Department.
Street Law Professional Development Workshop
The 2026 Street Law Professional Development Workshop will be Feb. 24-25 at the Christopher S. Bond U.S. Courthouse in Jefferson City.
The event is led by the educational nonprofit Street Law in partnership with The Missouri Bar, the federal court system, and The Judicial Learning Center. It will feature prominent Missouri lawyers and judges who will discuss the rights of the accused.
The two-day program is packed full of content to help teachers best educate their students. Participants will receive classroom-ready materials, explore current and contested issues, learn from prominent members of the legal community, and participate in skill-building activities like case studies and a moot court.
Meals and materials will be provided, including a group dinner . Teachers traveling from outside the Jefferson City area will have lodging provided Feb. 24-25. Accepted teachers may apply for a $100 allowance to be paid to their school to help cover the costs of substitute teachers.
Those interested in attending must register by Jan. 23. As space is limited, registration does not mean you will be automatically accepted to attend. Registrants will be notified of their acceptance on Jan. 30. Click here to register.
Summer Institute is a dynamic training program for educators specializing in American history, government, and civics hosted by The Missouri Bar Citizenship Education Department.
During the four-day program, teachers will learn about critical concepts and experience them firsthand. Working through lessons before implementing them allows educators to anticipate student reactions and fine-tune their approach for maximum impact.
The 2026 institute will be July 26-29 in Jefferson City and will explore the role of judges and the courts in our constitutional system.
