John W. Briscoe, 2000-01 president of The Missouri Bar, passed away Jan.1, 2024, at 81 years old. Briscoe graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law and was licensed to practice in Missouri in 1966.

Friends and family are invited to a life celebration and visitation Sunday, Jan. 7, from 4-7 p.m. at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Learn more about Briscoe and planned services in his obituary.

During his presidency, Briscoe was passionate about expanding mentoring opportunities; funding for legal services; and encouraging other lawyers to take part in bar activities.

“… the legal profession has allowed me to be contented with my chosen work. That is one of the reasons I felt it appropriate to show my gratitude by serving the bar to the best of my ability,” Briscoe wrote in the September/October 2000 Journal of The Missouri Bar.
