Sam Sherman honored with 2026 JoEllen Engelbart Award
Sam Sherman received this year’s JoEllen Engelbart Award, presented by The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section, during the Annual Meeting of The Missouri Bar in September.
The award is presented each year to a council member who exemplifies the spirit of the Young Lawyers’ Section Council. It honors the late JoEllen Engelbart, who was chair-elect of the council when she died in 2021. Engelbart, an assistant prosecuting attorney in Jackson County, dedicated her career to public service. YLS members at the time described her as an invaluable member of the council who always helped and mentored new members.
Sherman has served as the YLS Council District 3 (Jackson County) representative since 2023 and was co-chair of the council’s pro bono/community service committee. Prior to serving on YLS Council, he was a member of The Missouri Bar Leadership Academy program. Sherman graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and is corporate litigation counsel for Tyler Technologies, Inc.
Sherman said he was “incredibly humbled” to receive the JoEllen Engelbart Award since Engelbart was known as “an exemplar for leadership, service, mentorship, and positivity.”
“Serving on YLS Council is a tremendous privilege, made most special by the other young lawyers I serve with,” Sherman added. “I am thankful to be recognized among this tremendous class of YLS Council members, and I look forward to seeing all that we accomplish this year.”
