The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section empowers Missourians to understand their rights through video project

Recently, young and new Missouri lawyers collaborated with Missouri Bar staff to create engaging, easy-to-digest videos about important legal topics for members of the public on ShowMeRights.org. 

These videos empower Missouri’s teenagers and young adults to make informed decisions by equipping them with clear, accessible knowledge of their legal rights. Teenagers and young adults are often navigating critical milestones like obtaining credit, taking out loans, entering the workforce, and, in some cases, managing family law issues like marriage, parenting, and paternity. They may be unaware of the services available to them and need accessible, trustworthy guidance to make informed decisions as they transition into adulthood.  

ShowMeRights.org was created by the 2017-2018 Leadership Academy class to help Missouri’s teenagers and young adults understand their rights and responsibilities. The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section maintains the website. 

Since May 2024, 12 videos have been published covering a variety of topics including paternity, orders of protection, jury duty, and more. They have amassed over 245,000 views across Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, and have driven more than 1,700 visits to ShowMeRights.org. Watch the videos below. 

This project received an award for excellence in social media marketing during the 2025 National Association of Bar Executives Communications Workshop.
