Volunteer with Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org as part of National Celebration of Pro Bono

Held the last week of October each year, the National Celebration of Pro Bono recognizes lawyers who have stepped up to help those who cannot afford legal services. You can be part of the celebration by volunteering with Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org, which offers a way for lawyers to contribute their expertise and help those in need of legal assistance.  

This free virtual legal advice clinic allows qualifying users to post civil legal questions that volunteer lawyers can answer on their own schedules. It provides a flexible and convenient way for lawyers to participate in pro bono work and is covered by malpractice insurance. The clinic was launched in 2017 in partnership with the American Bar Association.  

2024 impact  

There were 2,725 new clients registered in 2024. Of the 2,422 questions submitted in 2024, 73 volunteer lawyers responded to 2,136 of those questions, assisting 2,024 clients, and donating more than 700 hours of their time providing legal answers. 

Of the 73 total volunteers that responded to at least one question in 2024, five of the volunteers responded to 100 or more questions. 

There were 21 new volunteers that signed up for Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org in 2024. 

Total impact 

Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org went live Jan. 23, 2017. Over the past eight years, more than 21,000 Missourians have used this service and received legal advice from 272 licensed Missouri lawyers who responded to more than 16,000 questions.
