Ethics: Lawyer disciplinary system to undergo restructure
“A disciplinary system that centralizes oversight of those investigative efforts is important to promote the fair and consistent application of the Rules of Professional Conduct.”
In the March/April issue of the Journal of The Missouri Bar, Hon. Zel Fischer of the Supreme Court of Missouri and Andrea K. Spillars, chief disciplinary counsel at the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel, discussed the new rules restructuring the disciplinary system in Missouri that will take effect in January 2027.

Gratitude: A small note that strengthens us all
“A quick, specific ‘thank you’ can do more than brighten someone’s day. It can strengthen Missouri lawyers’ sense of purpose and motivate them to continue practicing at their best,” said Bethany Allen, member of The Missouri Bar Standing Committee on Well-Being in the Profession.
In the March/April issue of the Journal of The Missouri Bar, Allen discussed how practicing gratitude increases professional well-being and can increase lawyers’ resilience.

Dozens of #NewMOLawyers sworn in during 2026 Spring Enrollment Ceremony
“There’s a world of opportunities that weren’t there a few months ago, and now I get to do what I want, where I want, and go after things I always wanted to,” William Hurt, a recently admitted Missouri lawyer, said.
On April 24, more than 30 individuals took the Oath of Admission and received their Missouri law licenses during the Spring Enrollment Ceremony.

Missouri students take constitutional knowledge beyond the classroom
“The feedback that I always get from the kids is this is the best academic experience that they’ve ever had, because it feels, and is, very real,” Jennifer Wells, a teacher at Kickapoo High School, said.
More than 80 students competed at the Show Me the Constitution mock congressional hearing competition on April 20. They argued complex constitutional issues in front of a panel comprised of leaders in the legal and academic fields.
