Well-Being Week in Law: Physical Wellness

This May 2-6, as part of Well-Being Week in Law, The Missouri Bar’s Lawyers Living Well Special Committee will provide resources to help Missouri lawyers focus on well-being in the legal profession. It’s no secret that the practice of law can be overwhelming, and mental health and substance use issues are prominent in the profession. Well-Being Week in Law is a national event with the aim of raising awareness about mental health and encouraging action and innovation across the profession to improve well-being.

The focus for Monday, May 2, 2022, is physical well-being, which includes striving for regular activity, good diet and nutrition, enough sleep, and recovery from stress. It also encourages people to limit addictive substances and seek help for physical health when needed.

Live event: Many lawyers wear sleep deprivation as a badge of honor to demonstrate how hard they are working, but it is critical for lawyers to get adequate sleep to recover from occupational stresses and perform at their highest professional level. Missouri lawyers and judges can take advantage of an ethics CLE at no additional cost to Missouri Bar members covering the importance of sleep hygiene. During this program, sleep expert Dr. Abid Bhat will discuss the impact of sleep deprivation on society, as well as common sleep disorders and how to address them. Register here.
