Missouri House approves proposed state FY 2025 budget

Legislative update: April 5, 2024

On April 4, all appropriations bills were third read and passed in the Missouri House of Representatives, paving the way for the Senate to begin its consideration of the bills. Of likely interest to The Missouri Bar members is HB 2012, which contains the House’s recommendations for the judiciary and the Office of the State Public Defender.

The deadline for legislative approval of the FY2025 appropriations bills is May 10. Prior to this date, the two chambers will reconcile their versions of the proposed budget in conference committees for final approval by both. Gov. Mike Parson has until July 1 to make line-item vetoes, veto, sign, or allow budget bills to become law without a signature.

The General Assembly will meet for a veto session on Sept. 11. It is during this session that the chambers will consider overriding the governor’s vetoes.
