Graves Garrett Greim LLC (GGG) is pleased to announce Alex Menzel joined the firm as counsel. Most recently, he retired from the FBI after spending 20 years in various roles. Menzel draws on his extensive and accomplished career in law enforcement to inform his return to private practice and ability to help clients navigate complex internal and external investigations that often involve the potential of regulatory actions and/or criminal charges. In addition to FBI service, he spent time as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Missouri from 2007-2013 and the District of Kansas from 2013-2014.

Menzel completed his undergraduate studies in forest resource management from the University of Georgia in 1995 and later earned a Master of Science there in wildlife biology. He went on to complete a doctoral degree in forestry and wildlife management and his law degree from West Virginia University, graduating first in his class and earning order of the coif honors.

While in law school, Menzel clerked for the Hon. Irene Keeley, the Chief Judge of the U.S. District for the Northern District of West Virginia, and completed an internship with a major national law firm in Washington, D.C. Upon graduation, he clerked for the Hon. Robert Bruce King of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Charleston, West Virginia, and Richmond, Virginia.

While with the FBI, Menzel served stints in complex financial crime, international terrorism, and violent gangs. He also worked as Associate Division Counsel (2013-2015) and supervisor of both the International Terrorism (2015-2016) and Transnational Organized Crime (2016-2021) squads for the Kansas City Field Office and as Acting Assistant Legal Attaché in Morocco, Ethiopia, Senegal, and Guatemala.

Experienced litigator Lee Hurwitz has joined Baker Sterchi as a Member in the firm’s Belleville office. Although associated with Belleville, he is based in the Chicago area and regularly practices in courts throughout the region, further strengthening the firm’s presence alongside fellow Chicago-based attorney Justin Borawski.

Hurwitz concentrates his practice on toxic tort, product liability, premises liability and trucking matters. He has extensive experience handling insurance defense cases involving personal injury and subrogation claims and has prepared numerous cases for jury trial, serving as solo lead counsel in nearly a dozen verdicts.

“Lee’s experience in toxic tort and product liability defense strengthens our team’s ability to serve clients across Illinois,” said Mike Hunter, Member-in-Charge of Baker Sterchi’s St. Louis office. “I look forward to working closely with him as he enhances our ability to provide responsive, local representation in a key region for our clients.”
