Seyferth Blumenthal & Harris LLC (SBH) is pleased to announce Mark Haddad and Zach Smith have joined the firm. Haddad will serve as of counsel with a practice focused on labor and employment litigation and counseling, while Smith will be an associate with a focus on insurance litigation.

“We look forward to the key role these two attorneys will play in providing additional resources to our clients,” said Kimberly Jones, SBH managing member. “SBH continues to foster an environment that allows the firm to handle the most complex and important labor and employment matters, especially in the current environment for businesses. Mark and Zach will be great additions in terms of their ability to handle legal work and be a part of our team-oriented culture.”

Haddad’s practice includes representing businesses and individuals in a wide variety of complex legal matters, focusing on commercial, employment and contract disputes. Specifically, he has significant experience working with financial institutions, but also litigates commercial, real estate and construction matters.

Appearing in federal and state courts in more than 10 states, Haddad has litigated at both the trial and appellate levels, defending high-exposure claims. He has first and second chair trial experience and has authored several appellate briefs and presented multiple oral arguments in various appellate courts.

Haddad currently serves as a co-chair of the Lender Liability Litigation subcommittee of the American Bar Association’s Commercial & Business Litigation Committee and previously served as a member of the Volunteer Committee of the Urban Neighborhood Initiative, which works to revitalize neighborhoods in Kansas City’s urban core.

Prior to entering private practice, Haddad completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia and earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law. He is also an Eagle Scout.

Smith started his private practice with SBH, and in addition to his insurance work, he will also handle employment-related litigation.

Previously, Smith served a stint as a law clerk for Judge Kevin D. Harrell, 16th Judicial Circuit Court, and spent time as an intern for Judge Brian C. Wimes of the U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri.

Smith received his B.A. in elementary education from the University of Iowa and spent more than a decade as an educator before returning to school to earn his J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. While at UMKC, Smith served as a board member of the UMKC Law Review and earned pro bono honors.
