Blitz, Bardgett & Deutsch (BB&D) proudly welcomes Heidi Eckert as a member of the firm. She is an experienced litigator who represents clients in all aspects of employment, labor, and civil rights disputes. 

“We are thrilled to welcome Heidi Eckert to the firm,” said Kevin Fleming, managing member of the firm. “Heidi is a talented trial attorney who will further strengthen the firm’s capabilities in achieving outstanding results in complex, high-stakes litigation throughout Missouri and nationwide.” 

Eckert is an active litigator who has defended claims in state and federal courts as well as before governmental agencies. She has also arbitrated and mediated numerous matters to successful resolution on behalf of her clients. Her litigation experience includes assisting clients with a wide variety of employment matters including claims of discrimination, harassment, ADA violations, and retaliation. Heidi also represents clients in matters involving civil rights claims, the majority of which are defended in federal court. In addition to litigating workplace law claims, Heidi provides proactive advice and training to employers on a variety of employment issues and counsels them on developing and implementing processes consistent with their business objectives and labor laws.

Eckert is a graduate of the University of Missouri and the Southern Illinois University School of Law. 


Capes Sokol announces the formation of a family law practice group with the addition of seasoned attorneys Michael L. Schechter and Ajla Alunovic.

Schechter and Alunovic will join the firm on May 1, 2024, from The Schechter Law Firm, P.C. Schechter, who has more than three decades of experience working with family-related legal matters, will lead the new family law practice group. 

“The launch of our family law practice group marks a milestone in our continuous commitment to elevating client experience,” said Jeffrey A. Cohen, chair of the firm. “With a focus on collaborative growth, we're equipped to address the diverse needs of our clients in family-related legal matters. This initiative underscores our dedication to innovation and personalized support." 

The family law practice group at Capes Sokol will offer a comprehensive suite of services tailored to meet clients' diverse needs, including dissolution of marriage, division of marital assets, protection of nonmarital property, maintenance, child custody and support, paternity issues, appeals, enforcement of existing orders, and more. 

“I’m thrilled to be bringing our family law group to such an exceptional firm and be able to offer another discipline to serve Capes Sokol’s clients,” said Schechter. 

Schechter earned his Juris Doctor from Washington University School of Law in 1991 and his bachelor’s degree at Washington University in 1985. 

Alunovic earned her Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University School of Law in 2014 and her bachelor’s degree from Saint Louis University in 2010. 
 

Kansas City

Polsinelli welcomes Genniveve D. Ramsey as a new shareholder in its Kansas City office. She is an experienced commercial real estate attorney. 

Ramsey returned to Polsinelli after more than five years in-house as chief legal officer and general counsel to a high-growth, vertically integrated real estate investment firm where she handled global risk management, real estate acquisitions and dispositions, financing, leasing, joint venture partnerships, fund compliance, and general corporate matters. She previously spent the majority of her legal career at Polsinelli. Ramsey focuses her practice on advising owners, operators, developers, investors, lenders, and borrowers on a national platform in all types of commercial real estate transactions including acquisitions, dispositions, complex financing, joint venture and investment placement, and asset structuring. Her breadth of experience provides her with the innate ability to anticipate issues and provide innovative problem solving and effective solutions to every transaction on behalf of her clients. 

“I couldn’t be more thrilled about my return to the firm to continue my career and expand again on the opportunities in the market. Ramsey received her Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and received her B.A. in business administration and finance from the University of Kansas.
